Media junkies.

Young boys are tempted to a life of crime, due to what they see on the media

The media is supposed to be a platform that informs or educates the youth, but the way I see things it’s misleading them. “Movies like Jerusalem and How to steal how two million” are some of the reasons I decided to blog about this issues. As I was watching these movies I saw so many prominent faces and sadly some of those people are our role models. So tell me if a young boy is watching how to steal R2 million and he sees his role model hijacking a car or rather killing another human being for his/her money, what will happen? Obviously he will do the same because he saw it from his role model forgetting that that guy is only doing his work. This refers to the uses and gratification theory in communication sciences that focuses on media audiences who actively select media to satisfy their particular needs. In this case they will see crime as a “cool” thing and start to engage; unfortunately the disadvantages of crime are lesser than the advantages.
Having a criminal record can impact your life in numerous ways. It may jeopardize your ability to gain employment, buy a home, obtain custody over your children, travel, immigrate or even find new friends. In the legal world, these repercussions are known as the "collateral consequences of criminal charges" or the "four C's." Given the far-reaching consequences of having a criminal record, you may want to consider having your record expunged or pardoned.

*Volunteer to mentor young people who need positive support from adults. Programs ranging from Big Brothers and Big Sisters to Adopt-a-School include mentoring as a central ingredient.
*Talk with children in the neighborhood about what worries or scares them and about where and how they have felt threatened by violence. Interview teachers, school staff, crossing guards, and bus aides.
The media needs to ban such movies because they tend to promote crime.

  2. The media shows that bad aqtions wil lead to punishment. I still see the media as a platform that emphazises that we ar human beings and we tempted to crime as young people. Then the media is advicing the youth to stay away frm crime

  3. Even though the movies show negative things, they also show the consequences of those actions so I think it's really up to a person what they choose to do with their lives. There's no such thing as "I saw it in a movie so I thought I could also get away with it", to me that's just being stupid.

  5. Well media play a role in peoples life because young boys think what they see in the Movies is real and thats all wrong but even in the movies you see when it ends someone dies or go to jail, it does show that after everything you do, you will pay for your actions.

  6. Media is not promoting crime, it trying to educate the society about the danger of crime. its only those who are weak minded that will actually do what is potrayed by the media

    2. Media is not only advertising crime, it also educating the society about danger of crime, if you are participating in crime, you are creating a two way stream for your life, its either you will be arrested or end up dead.

  13. The media shows us what we want to see and they also educate us about the dangers of crime, so for a grown up to commit crime because they saw a violent movie, they need a strong beating.

  14. We always take what we hear and see in the media as crucial so they also think crime does pay

  15. well i beg to differ let me take you back to what you where taught in media studies.
Selective listening and hearing means we as humans have the choice to believe what we see or not believe in what we see.
the point am trying to drive home is media are the watchdogs of the society and they will show you what really happens in reall life through entertainment but it is up to you to see the bigger picture as this has nothing to do with encouraging teens to steal or rob people. look at it this way, when you watch a movie you look at the positive outcomes not the negative ones.

  16. I do get what you are saying but kids of today are more educated to know that movies are just movies, just because they watch a movie with their role model doing crime that won't make them want to do the same thing. What do you say about those kids who do crime just because they want too, not because the saw their role models do it in movies? I think that if a child wants to do crime they will it does not matter where or who they saw do it. Even though the media is the driving force for so many things but for crime especially in movies that is just a big NO NO for me, I feel that parents have to teach their children about all that.

  17. looks like an interesting movie that i would enjoy to watch though hey, along the lines of abo jerusalema another that i enjoyed very much i must say, but getting back to the topic i think yes too the media influences crime in the world in general be it local or where ever, therefore movies should limit thier portrayal of it in their movies

  18. I agree wih you. The media tend to portray to us about the danger of crimes. The media highlights us about eveyhing that happens in our everyday lives

  19. I've also seen Jerusalema. as much as it is a good movie, its has explicit content. It sad how most of the youth finds it ammusing and do half of the stuff they saw from the movie in real life.

  20. Its true people the media is showing us the advantages rather the disadvantages of crime

  21. I wouldnt say the media is the middle man for this events occuring we all no at the end bad guys loose in the movies I guess this young boy would not want to loose. I think is a everyone's choice to act in a certain way.

  22. Interesting facts you are coming up with. But I must say the media is making and breaking the society as people tend to take tips from the warning we get through the media.

  23. this is the serious problem which has no solution, its still gonna happen as long as those guys keep on displaying those kinda movies, w must forget
