Ignorance kills the youth.

Is it ignorance or lack of knowledge?

www.google/images
They say say "WE" are a lost generation,I disagree we just a generation that is striving for perfection.
There are many challenges the youth face issues like gang rape, alchol abuse and the one I  am touching here which is the issues of young girls dating sugar daddies. The answer to the above questions is IGNORANCY,Yes the youth is very ignorant when coming to serious matters. They often commit themselves to things that wont benefit them in the long run.Why does a minor have to date an older man so that she can benefit materially?I have realised that teens are very materialistic and they want things quickly. This leads them to being dependant and not knowing how to support themselves www.southafrica.usembassy.gov/roots/pdfs.com

The issue lies within the societal norms that they have to adjust to.According to the statistics the tertiary students especially girls are the one's that are affected by this matter.Majority of them end up dropping out of school and some end up having babies plus a bonus which is HIV/AIDS.

I know you might be asking yourself that what does this matter have to do with Public relations and the answer is one of the job description for this profession is to create awareness and by touching such issues I am making them aware thae these issues are there and how are they going to stop nor ignore the tempations they come across. What can we do as a young society or as a whole to change that or rather help them?

These are some strategies we going to implement:

  • Establishment of awareness campaigns
  • Educate the unfortunate victims and the fortunate one's that did not fall in the trap
  • Collaborate with NGO's like LoveLife and start a movement for them

  2. Personally I do not think a situation can push someone to have a sugardaddy or indulge with an older person. Just young people will not stop until they get burned.

I agree we as youth we are to ignorant we concentrate on useless things that's y some of the girls end up having suger daddy's because they conentrate on the material and forgeting about their future,it's not about poor background the are so many people who where poor but today they have their on business's and making a different so it's not always about being poor if you want to make a different you can,We have to learn to make our own living and forget about other people's material

  4. When hunger strikes, you do think of ethics, values and beliefs, you just do what you think is right and will benefit you at that time. So I don't really think its ignorance. One just need help, and the sugar daddies need return favours as well. Hence Thato is saying, it will backfire but you don't think about that at the time of need. We are from different backgrounds, we need financial support system that won't require us to write affidavits and motivational letters stating why we think we deserve to be sponsored. We just need financial help that's all.

    1. I get your point but having to sleep with a guy same age as your dad is just madness.rather go do those afffidavits and clearly explain why you need to be sponsored...A short cut to a good life is never an option

  5. This issue should also address boys and sugar mama`s. lots of this issues should be fixed mostly by parents since most of this girls got away with doing such Nonsense because of their parents who kept turning a blind eye on expensive gifts they have seen from their kids while they know he or she cannot afford such things

    1. That's true but some parents think they save up to buy the things they want. And some of them lie and say they got the money from their sponsors,so we cannot really blame them because they dont know

  6. lol "plus bonus HIV/AIDS" its not funny, just how you wrote it nje... well people say circumstances pushes you to behave as such but totally disagree I was raised in a very unfortunate circumstances it was totally not easy growing up but you don't see me behaving as such, people must stop blaming their backgrounds for their behaviors, they always wanted to do such things..but like they say MANY WAYS TO KILL A CAT! if it works for you why leave it?

    Great Article Thobi

There are many factors contributing to this issue and I agree, Ignorance and Lack of knowledger are one of them. Changes in our societal and cultural values is one of the major factors that have immensely contributed in this issue, the love of material things, lack of role models, taking short-cuts to success, etc. Another major factors I would like to highlight is Poverty and Unemployment. A young girl that have just passed her matric, no resources to take her to tertiary, in fact she has the responsibility to take care of her family, with high levels of unemployment in this country, she can't get a job. This old man promises her a life that she can only dream of: what does she do? she takes the offer and face the consequences later. Thank you.

    1. That's always the case, but is worth it at the end of the day? These guys are married, what will happen if you get pregnant?obviuosly he woud not leave his wife for you.You will have a baby that he wont even look after,it means you will move on to the next guy that will do pretty much the same as the first guy..They just need to see this campaigns as wake up calls and start studying hard so that they will have the life they dreaming of.

    2. It's not worth it, because one will suffer consequences at the end. And it's not an excuse to say you are doing it out of poverty or unemployment. Obviously these young girls want to take a short cut in accomplishing their goals and are not looking at the permanent damages that they will suffer. I agree with you, Education is the key to success, it may take long for one to realise that, but an opportunity does come.

  8. I appreciate the fact that you are pointing out that it is totally unacceptable to date an older men. I hope the youth can find the campaigns useful so that they can stop depending on suggar daddies. It is about time they do it for themselves.

  10. The problem is more rooted on issues of peer pressure than ignorance. the truth is in life we are all bound to make mistakes and just like albert eanstein said "if you have never made mistakes in life, you have never tried anything new"..

  11. Great stuff my fellow colleague. Well firstly I think the reason why this is still going on is that our fellow sisters lack self-esteem, they are not content with what they have and they love competing instead of building each other in terms of how one should look after herself, they lack that sisterhood relationship. This has to stop and people have to start taking life seriously. The reputation of our country is going down the drain bit by bit and we might lose all investments from other countries and this will have a negative impact on our economy.

  16. It's definitely ignorance. Just because you're poor it does not mean you should go sleep with a man old enough to be your faher for money, that is not the solution at all. All you have to do is look for job, leave your ego at the door and then you will get somewhere.
